A collaborative project with world-renowned guitarist Lionel Loueke from Benin, West Africa, GuitAfrica presents an informative and enjoyable approach to learning African-style guitar.

We believe that learning music should be engaging, inspiring, and rewarding rather than tedious. To uphold this belief, we engaged Lionel Loueke to compose and perform 22 exquisite songs exclusively for GuitAfrica. These songs are influenced by the traditional sounds of various African ethnic groups across the continent.

Each song includes a full score and separate parts for guitars, bass, and drums. The guitar and bass sections feature both standard musical notation and tablatures to help you grasp Lionel’s precise fingerings.

Additionally, each song is accompanied by a detailed information sheet outlining the traditional music background, instruments used, and the ethnic group that served as its inspiration.

Prioritizing quality, we recorded Lionel’s music and performance with a stellar band in a professional studio environment to ensure exceptional sound production.

Learning any song is made simple with GuitAfrica. For instance, you can focus on individual parts by soloing them or play along with the metronome or bass tracks to maintain rhythm. Moreover, the ability to loop selected measures and adjust tempo facilitates a step-by-step learning process.

After mastering each part, you can mute the learned section, unmute other instruments, and play along with the full band, providing a holistic learning experience akin to being part of the ensemble.

Furthermore, by altering the pitch of a song, you can challenge yourself to learn specific phrases in multiple keys. Close attention to Lionel’s playing style through dedicated listening and repetition is emphasized.

Given African music's emphasis on rhythm, the drum and percussion parts included will enhance your understanding of the music's nuances.

GuitAfrica caters not only to guitarists but also to musicians keen on exploring and comprehending African music genres.

While an iPad's ample screen is ideal for reading music parts, iPhone users can benefit too by zooming in on each staff. Additionally, all parts are printable for convenience.
